CA ARCserve Backup

Description

CA ARCserve Backup r16 goes beyond just backup, ensuring that your organization's data is always secure- no matter the complexity of your infrastructure. With new enhancements that include integrated data deduplication, infrastructure visualization and granular restore of active directory- Backup r16 delivers complete data protection across your entire enterprise for Windows, UNIX, Linux and Novell systems with DAS, NAS and SAN storage.

Key Features

  • Integrated Data Deduplication:
Improves the economics of disk-based backup solutions by enabling longer retention periods, providing a more cost-effective means of reducing storage needs, protecting critical data and integrating, configuring and managing deduplication in the existing backup environment.

  • Enhanced Virtualization Support:
Allows the ability to perform image and file-level backup and restores in VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 environments and establish a schedule for full image-level and daily incremental backups as needed.  In addition, '1-step' granular recovery provides a fast and simple process to recover data residing on virtual servers.

  • Dashboard with SRM Reporting - offers graphical insight into your backup environment and allows you to monitor the status of all backup activities, find the nodes that are taking the longest, locate backed up data, discover if data is encrypted and ready for disaster recovery and track volume, disk and memory usage on each production server.

  • High Performance:
ARCserve leverages multiple methods, including backup to disk, disk staging, multiplexing and multi-streaming among others to provide high-performance, non-disruptive backup and restore operations to mission-critical information and data assets.

  • Centralized Management and Administration:
ARCserve Backup r12 has been redesigned to support a three tier architecture and now provides you with a centralized management console that allows your administrators to manage, modify and control backup and restore jobs, media devices, activity logs, alerts, catalogs, product licensing and reports from a single point including local, remote servers and remote offices.

  • Scalability:
Provides a complete backup solution regardless of the size or type of your organization. Protect all of your data, including distributed branch offices from one centralized server.

  • Integrated Backup to Disk:
Backup to disk allows users to use disk technology as an intermediate step in the backup process. Faster access speed and higher reliability of disk technologies ensures reduced backup and restore time as well as higher success rate for backups.

  • Multiplexing Capabilities:
Multiplexing enables up to 32 jobs to write to the same tape media simultaneously. This technology not only reduces backup window, but also makes efficient use of the tape libraries and media.

  • Extensive Reporting Capabilities:
Includes an extensive list of predefined reports, including Real-Time Backup/Restore Statistics Recovery Report which can also be sent via email. New reports include: backup and restore attempt success rate, clients with most failed backup attempts, partial backups, full backup duration report and more.

  • Disk Staging Backup (D2D2T):
Disk to disk to tape (D2D2T) shrinks backup time by allowing backup data to be staged to fast disk drives before it is automatically moved to tape. Restore requests are redirected to disks automatically, reducing recovery time. The whole operation is policy driven, reducing cost and management overhead.

  • 64-Bit Platform Support:
The r11.5 release will allow you to leverage the performance and scalability benefits of 64-bit hardware platform in backup servers as well as protect applications running in 64-bit operating systems.

  • Regulatory Compliance Enhancements:
Features like NetApp Snaplock support, IBM Worm and LTO-3 Worm support will enable system administrators perform backups as per regulatory requirements.

  • Smart Restore Capability:
If ARCserve encounters a bad media, it redirects the restore job to other media containing the same data without any manual intervention, reducing need for human intervention and restore time.

  • One-step Virus Block:
This one-step virus block feature allows swift isolation of networks that may be experiencing a new virus outbreak. File extension can be added to the blocked extension list denying all access to such files in situations where new, potential viruses are detected.

  • Support for Virtual Machine Sessions:
Windows Virtual Server, Windows Virtual PC as well as VMware sessions hosted on servers can be protected.

  • VMware ESX Support:
With the new agent for VMware, backups can be managed efficiently by selecting a combination of VCB Proxy, ESX Server, Virtual Machine and Volumes. Physical to virtual bare metal restore and file level restore to original virtual machine location is also supported with this agent certified by VMware.
