Thank you for coming to view this Two Minute Tech from Productive Corporation on the key components of AVG Internet Security Business Edition 2012.

In this video, we'll discuss the individual program components that together ensure full protection for your computer.

The specific components your AVG installation contains, depends on which AVG Edition you have chosen. It is also possible to deselect some of the components during AVG installation process. The overview of all available components can be seen in the Main Screen of AVG.

We’ll start with the Anti-Virus component protects your computer continuously from all known types of viruses and spyware (including so-called sleeping and non-active malware, i.e. malware that has been downloaded but not yet activated). The Anti-Virus component consists of two functional parts, the Resident Shield, and a malware database.  The Resident Shield gives your computer continuous real-time protection. It scans every single file that is being opened, saved, or copied on the computer. The Resident Shield is loaded in the memory of your computer during start-up, and it is vital that you keep it switched on at all times for endpoint protection.

The next component is LinkScanner.
The LinkScanner component consists of the following parts:

  • AVG Search-Shield, this evaluates Internet links generated by the most commonly used search engines)
  • AVG Surf-Shield is online protection from malicious websites
  • AVG Online Shield offers online protection from viruses and spyware.

These three parts aim to protect you, when browsing the Internet in real-time, from dangerous contents of websites, and even links to such websites.

The E-mail Protection component is responsible for scanning every e-mail message, sent or received; whenever a virus is detected in an e-mail, it is removed to the Virus Vault immediately. The component can also filter out certain types of e-mail attachments, and add a certification text to infection-free messages.

The Anti-Rootkit component is a specialized tool designed to detect and remove dangerous rootkits.

The System Tools component is an advanced tool for detailed system analysis, as to what is happening on your computer at the moment.  It lists and allows you to terminate or delete individual active processes and applications currently running on your computer, open network connections, installed browser plugins, LSPs, and applications that are launched automatically after Windows start-up.

The Component Firewall displays an overview of Firewall logs, a complete record of Firewall related actions and events.

Finally, the Identity Protection component shields passwords and credit card numbers and can identify all potentially dangerous software, enabling secure transactions between you and your clients and suppliers.
